A Historic EXPERIENCE
Originally built in 1871, and later expanded in the early 1900's, The Montgomery Mills complex has a rich history as a central fixture of life in Windsor Locks, CT. As a longtime home to the J.R. Montgomery Company, the space was originally used to manufacture weft yarns. As time went on and the business was successful, they expanded into the manufacturing of novelty yarns, tinsel, and communications wire and in 1896 became the first US mill to produce mercerized thread on a mass-market scale. The niche market in which they operated really set the company apart from the vast majority of regional textile mills. Today innovation lives on at Montgomery Mills as this historic building has now been transformed into modern apartment homes that maintain the distinct character of its storied past.
